Makeup Tips

Looking beautiful is not only about how well you can apply your makeup but also about being confident and projecting that out into the world. Being confident and happy with yourself is the most important tip for looking and feeling beautiful! Of course, makeup can help enhance that natural beauty that you already have bubbling under the surface so here are a few tips to get you going.

Tip numero uno—can you guess it? MOISTURIZE! This is important for your hands and feet and the rest of your body as well. Keep your face clean and moisturized by cleansing in the morning and night and applying a moisturizer afterwards. This is a ritual that you should follow daily. A visit to the spa every so often is also a good idea so that you get a deep cleaning of your skin; plus, it is super relaxing so go ahead and treat yourself every so often.

For the day, use a facial moisturizer that contains SPF to protect your skin from the sun. The sun can be super damaging to your skin, even when it looks dark and cloudy outside, so SPF is important and will help your skin stay looking healthy and young. For this reason I also do not recommend “fake & bake” tanning salons. Although you may like the short term results that a tanning bed will give you, in the future you may regret it. Not only are you putting yourself at risk for skin cancer, too much exposure to the sun tends to age your skin a lot faster than those who use sunscreen and avoid over exposure from the sun and tanning beds.

Applying a base

Choose a foundation that matches the shade of your skin, if you do not choose a close match then your face colour will not match the rest of your skin and that (obviously) is not a good thing. Apply your foundation with a brush, foam pad, or clean fingertips, and remember that less is more—start with a small amount and blend it all over your face evenly. Pay close attention to your jaw line and make sure you blend really well here so that you create a seamless flow between your face and neck. If you have dark circles or redness you can use a concealer which is more effective then foundation because it is thicker and is made for those problem spots like under-eye circles. Finally, apply a powder overtop of the foundation, if you choose, to smoothen out the look and eliminate any shine. One of the biggest mistakes women make is applying too much foundation and powder which creates a thick, cakey look—gross! Apply only as much as necessary to keep your face looking as natural as possible.
